Putting a gloss on an apprenticeship

A £500 bursary from The Connollly Foundation is helping 19-year-old Eleana Jenkins, an apprenticeship student at Bedford College, to train to be a painter and decorator.

Eleana, 19, lives in Gamlingay and attended Stratton Upper School in Biggleswade.

She has always liked decorating and often helped at home and with her dad’s building company.

Eleana said: “This is something I have always wanted to do and the Connolly Foundation has been a great help, for which I am thankful. I would like to use my skills in restoration work but will be happy decorating wherever I can. The money has really helped towards tools and transport costs.”

Bedford College offers training from entry level at the age of 16 with progression on to degree-level learning for those who are seeking promotion or entry to roles such as Project Manager.

Bedford College is the largest provider of apprentices in Bedfordshire and has long tradition of supporting trainees into the fields of construction and engineering.
