Sue Ryder St John's Hospice

The Connolly Foundation continues to fund a specialist palliative nurse to help in the ward of to St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger.

The Connolly Foundation donated a similar sum last year.

Mike Coward, Hospice Director, Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice, said: “As we receive only half of what we need from statutory funders, we have to rely heavily on local people and local organisations to help fund their local hospice.

“The extraordinary generosity of the Connolly Foundation in donating £50,000 towards the running costs of our hospice has enabled us to provide 100 days of specialist palliative care for our patients. Thank you so much.”

Sue Ryder is a charity which supports people with complex needs and life-threatening illnesses across the UK and internationally.

St John’s is part of Sue Ryder and has been extremely busy recently. This reflects the continuing need for special palliative care locally. It also reflects the needs of an aging population among whom diseases such as cancer are more prevalent than among younger people.

The daycare centre is extremely busy, providing specialist treatment as well as blood transfusions and drug infusions.

All of these services are supported and underpinned by a chaplain, social worker, bereavement and family support team and of course the small army of housekeepers, caterers and admin people.
